LIVERMORE FALLS – A complaint from a citizen brought the town office hours to the selectmen’s attention again Monday night.

Patty Hurd asked the board if there was some way the office could be opened one night a week as she and others have to take time off from their work to do their town business.

Since a decision on reopening the office on Wednesdays was on the agenda, the board agreed to discuss both issues.

Office staff stressed that, even though the office is closed to the public on Wednesdays, they are still there working to get caught up from being short handed. “It was very much appreciated,” said Clerk Faith Nichols.

Dawn Young, who manages the front office, said she is now caught up and would be ready to reopen but the board agreed this week it would not be a good time with one day out for the election. The office will go back to regular hours next Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Among the suggestions to solve the after hours request were to have a drop box where citizens could leave their sewer and tax payments, to have night hours once a month, do business through the mail or on-line.

Staff noted that, except for new car registrations, everything else can be done through the mail. Citizens could call to determine the amount owed on a bill and then mail in a check, they said.

Town Manager Alan Gove will discuss the situation further with the clerks and board to see what could be done.

Gove reported that the town mechanic was able to fix the custodian’s truck for inspection and said he hoped work would be finished on Haines Corner Road this week.

The board approved some abatements and supplemental tax items, most involving property that had been billed to the wrong taxpayer. A bill to Charles Barker should have gone to John Darveau, while bills to Ryan Amero and Barbara Roberts went to Barker.

Four men also received rebates as their veterans’ exemptions had not been recognized. They are Wallace Tripp, Leonard White, John Lovely and Frank Dalessandro.

Heller Financial Leasing was abated as it no longer exists in Livermore Falls and Sandra Arthur received a rebate because her mobile home had been billed twice.

Eaton Memorial Methodist Church had received an exemption for its parsonage that has not been used as such. The error was reported by the church.
