LIVERMORE FALLS – The Dispatch Study Committee has completed its work and submitted its report to selectmen.

That group was formed following the June town meeting when citizens were uncertain of the benefits, if any, of having dispatch done by another entity.

The committee has met several times and studied three options: making no change, going with Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, and contracting with Jay for dispatch service.

The ASO option was not investigated thoroughly as there appeared to be too many operational problems, so much of the report deals with the Jay option that appears to save money.

However, the report lists several disadvantages with that option as well, and notes that the savings might be minor.

Cost savings could be $100,000 but first year expenses could cut that drastically as a full time secretarial /records keeper position would be needed in the local station.

In addition, there would be added expenses for transporting prisoners to Auburn, the matter of loss of local control, and no local backup system if Jay’s should fail.

Selectmen will study the report and discuss it at the Nov. 17 meeting.
