1919 – 2003

LEWISTON – George Frank Huston, 83, of 10 Hemlock Circle, Auburn, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Central Maine Medical Center.

Born in Portland, Nov. 29, 1919, the son of Anna B. and George Huston, he was educated in South Portland schools, graduating in 1937.

He was employed in Washington, D.C., where he was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and made combat jumps in Sicily, Italy, Normandy and Holland. For a while he was stationed in Quorn, England, where he met and married his wife, the former Amie Sybes on July 24, 1945.

He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and different citations from his European service. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He loved his God and was a member of the Court Street Baptist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher for many years and also served in many different offices in the church. He was a member of the Young at Heart Fellowship and was a Gideon.

He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was greatly loved by his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He leaves his wife of 58 years; a sister, Marie Chambers of Gorham; a daughter, Janice Lowell and her husband, Roger; a son, Glenn; grandchildren, Kristin, Ryan and Todd and Kelly and Nick; great-grandchildren, Alex, Benjamin, Molly and Josh; and many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed, but would want all to be happy and keep smiling.
