LISBON – Richard L. Libby of Lisbon Street died Tuesday, Nov. 4, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the son of Leroy P. and Edith Brett Libby. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1942. He served in the Army Infantry during World War II after which time he attended the University of Maine at Orono graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He worked for Lane Construction Co. in Meriden, Conn., for 36 years retiring in 1987. He was a former member of the Freeport Lions Club, Ducks Unlimited, Masons and the Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Fern D. “Foster” Williams Libby of Lisbon and Brewer; two stepsons, Bruce R. Williams and his wife, Vianka of Sanford and Andrew B. Williams of Brewer; three brothers, Stanley Libby and his wife, Marion of Freeport, Clarence Libby and his wife, Peggy of Durham and Norman Libby and his wife, Catherine of Tewksbury, Mass.; three sisters, Evelyn Porter of Freeport, Margaret Uldall of Portland and Luella Merryman of Lisbon Falls; a sister-in-law, Alice Libby of Westbrook; two grandsons, Brandon and Gregory Williams of Sanford. He was a special uncle in the lives of numerous nieces and nephews. His wife said, his life centered around all his family.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Leroy Libby, Alfred Libby, Donald Libby, Winfield ” Winnie” Libby; and a sister, Frances Ringrose.
