BROWNFIELD – The Oxford County Republican Committee will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Masonic Hall in Rumford Corner. A 5:30 p.m. social hour will precede the dinner at 6:30 p.m. and business meeting. The speaker will be Scott Christianson, economic director for the River Valley Growth Council.

The speaker at the last meeting was David Heidrich, a junior at Oxford Hills High School who spent eight weeks this summer in Washington, D.C., as a page for U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snow (R-Maine).

Terming this time in the nation’s capital as “the experience of a lifetime,” the 16-year-old student provided some highlights of his summer, including his impression of some the famous people he met during this time.

At the business meeting, finance chairman, Norm Ferguson, announced that his fund-raising for the party effort in 2004 was progressing well. There was a mini-debate between two of the three Republican candidates expected to run in the Republican primary in the new Maine Senate District 13.

Fryeburg attorney David Hastings and former state Rep. Paul Waterhouse of Bridgton answered a number of questions about issues facing the state including health care, the environment and taxes. There appeared to be little disagreement between the two candidates. Another potential candidate for this seat is Caldwell Jackson of Oxford, who was unable to attend.

Diane Jackson reported on U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe’s recent activities. It was voted to hold the 2004 Lincoln Day dinner in February at El Dorado in South Paris.
