SIMSBURY, Conn. – The third-ranked Hartford men’s soccer team defeated No. 6 Maine 1-0 in the first round of the 2003 America East Championship at Curtiss Park Thursday afternoon.

In the 65th minute of action, Hartford’s Gorkem Katoglu sent a cross from the right side of the box to Eitan Arbel who headed the ball past a diving Chad Mongeon in goal for Maine.

Women’s ice hockey

co-captains named

GORHAM – Senior forward Tricia Kamp and senior goalie Karen Jamnik have been named co-captiains of the UNiversity of Southern Maine women’s ice hockey team.

“Karen and Tricia should serve as the ideal captains for this year’s team, and I am extremely confident about their ability to lead us this year,” said fourth-year head coach David Venditti.

Jamnik and Kamp will serve as the lone seniors on a 26-member roster that includes 16 freshmen.

They will oversee USM’s progress through a deamnding 24-game schedule that includes a full complement of 19 games against its 10 conference foes.

Colby basketball

coaches clinic

WATERVILLE- Men’s basketball coach Dick Whitmore will host the Colby College Basketball Coaches Clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Registration will be from 8:15 to 9 a.m. in the main lobby of Colby’s Alfond Athletic Center.

Tuition for the clinic is $35, which includes a clinic booklet that can be picked up at registration.

The following is the schedule for the clinic: 9 to 10:10 a.m., offensive skill development; 10:20 to 11:30 a.m., zone defense in the half court; 11:30 a.m. to noon, open forum with questions on any aspects of the game; noon to 1:15 p.m., lunch (on your own); 1 to 2:15 p.m., team offense in the half court; 2:15 to 2:50 p.m., practice preparation; 2:50 to 6 p.m., Colby men’s basketball team practice with pre-practice individual work.
