LEWISTON – United Way of Androscoggin County held its second annual Day of Caring on Sept. 17. The theme was “What a Difference a Hand Makes.” The theme was chosen because United Way of Androscoggin County relies on volunteers and knows that a helping hand from a volunteer can make all the difference on a project.
More than 90 volunteers from 10 local companies helped complete projects from painting and sprucing up office spaces of participating agencies, helping with the upkeep of a client’s home to sorting food at the food bank.
Some agencies needed more storage space while another needed some painting done and another needed the front entrance spruced up with cleaning, painting and flowers planted.
Agencies submitted projects that needed to be completed. The projects were chosen and volunteers were assigned. One group from Electro Static Technology went to an elderly woman’s home to work on the yard and house. The volunteers stayed late and returned on their own time to finish the projects.
