BC topples No. 1 Bears

BOSTON (AP) – Boston College took an early 2-0 lead and killed all six Maine power-play chances for a 4-1 win on Friday night.

Maine (7-1-0, 2-1-0 Hockey East) entered the game as the nation’s top-ranked team, while Boston College entered as the fifth-ranked team in the country.

Boston College (5-2-1, 2-0-0) led 2-0 after one period after netting a short-handed goal and a power-play goal in the first 20 minutes.

With the Eagles playing one man down, defenseman J.D. Forrest opened the scoring at 9:16. Ben Eaves gave BC a 2-0 margin with a power-play goal at 18:04.

Ryan Shannon gave BC a 3-0 cushion at 7:16, before Luciano Aquino scored for Maine at 9:13.

Ryan Murphy finished the scoring with a goal at 16:47 of the third period.
