FARMINGTON – Erica Gunderson scored at 14:21 of the first half to boost the University of Maine at Farmington to a 3-0 win over Simmons College for the NAC field hockey championship.
The Beavers added a pair of second-half goals. Kristy Veazie scored on a feed from Lauren Stevens with 25 minutes left in regulation, and Mary Berry cashed in a pass from Mary Sinclair for the final score. Ashley Biette turned back 12 shots to record the shutout victory.
USM 3, Keene State 1
KEENE, N.H. – Senior goalie Jessie Superchi stopped 18 shots as the University of Southern Maine downed Keene State 3-1 to take home the Little East Conference championship. The Huskies scored on three of six penalty corners to defeat the top-seeded Owls, with Renee Heath, Kerry Leonard, and Darci Holland each tallying a goal.
Williams 5, Bowdoin 4
MIDLEBURY, Vt. – Williams held off a late charge by Bowdoin to notch a 5-4 win in the NESCAC semifinals.
The Ephs broke out to a 4-1 lead in the first half and withstood a late rally by the Polar Bears to move on to the title game Sunday. Marissa O’Neil scored three goals for Bowdoin.
