1928 – 2003

Lewiston – Carmella DeGruttla Cote, 75, of 96 Pleasantview Acres, died Saturday, Nov. 8, at Central Maine Medical Center with her loving family by her side, after a short illness with cancer .

She was born in Lewiston Aug. 10, 1928, the daughter of John DeGruttla, an Italian immigrant, and Lillian Parent. She was educated in local schools and was married in 1968 to Reginald Cote who predeceased her on Jan. 6, 1973.

She was employed as a waitress in local restaurants and was well known at the former Nan King Restaurant and the Poland Spring Lodge.

She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Her family was first and foremost in everything she did. She demonstrated her love of God through sacrifice and attitude. She also loved the family pets.

She was a member of East Auburn Baptist Church and was a devout follower of the Lord.

She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Poulin and her husband Michael, and Diane Knowlton; a son, Daniel “Nick” Knowlton and his wife Joye, all of Lewiston; seven grandchildren, Deborah Pomerleau and her husband Tim, Laurie Cote and her husband Rick, Julie Gordon and her husband Tony, Joyce Poulin, Krista Knowlton and her fiancé Rick Bean, Nicholas Knowlton and his wife Brie, and Asheley Knowlton; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lucille Delorme of National City, Calif., Annette Metropolis and her husband Charles of West Hartford, Conn., Angie Boisvert and her husband Romeo of Lewiston, Gloria McCarthy and her husband Joseph of Lewiston, and Theresa Hunsicker and her husband Bob of Santa Anna,Calif.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Cecile and Germaine; and three brothers, Maurice, Reginald and Bertrand.
