Vets Day fair

Rotary fund-raiser
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club launched its annual poinsettia fund-raising project to benefit local charities and college scholarships for five area high school graduating seniors.
Members will be accepting orders until Nov. 20. They will then be delivered to customers on Dec. 6. Jason LaPlante is chairman. Several sizes and colors are offered and free local delivery is available for orders of four or more plants. Anyone interested in ordering Christmas poinsettias can call Laplante at 777-5701.

City seeks tree
LEWISTON – The city of Lewiston is seeking a 25- to 30-foot tree for the community’s holiday tree lighting. Anyone with such a tree to donate can contact city Arborist Steve Murch at 784-5753, extension 214. The annual tree lighting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Courthouse Plaza during the community celebration.
Richelieu meeting
AUBURN – Club Richelieu International will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Rolandeau’s Restaurant, 775 Washington St. Regional Gov. Diane Charrette of Salem, Mass., will attend. Administrator Armand Devoe of Beverly, Mass., is also expected to attend. Members and guests are invited.
Senior College
LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program for Tuesday Nov. 18, will be “Literacy Matters.” Literacy Volunteers executive director Tahlia Hope and Judy Webber, board vice chairman, will present an interactive program providing information on volunteer experiences meeting the needs of clients who have learning difficulties.
The program will be held at noon in the community room at L-A College. The cost is $5, which includes lunch, and is open to everyone. Call 753-6510 by Monday, Nov. 17, for reservations.
Leavitt fair
TURNER – Leavitt Area High School will be holding its 27th annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the high school. There will more than 100 crafters filling two gymnasiums, the cafeteria and the hallways as they display their Maine made goods. In addition to the crafters, LAHS classes and school organizations will also be selling quality items for their fund-raising efforts. LAHS Music Boosters will provide lunch. Everyone is welcome. All proceeds benefit Leavitt students.
Robin Dow Seniors
AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens Thanksgiving dinner will be at the Ramada Wednesday, Nov. 12. Doors open at 11 a.m. and President Audrey Fleming will be in charge.
At the Oct. 22 meeting, a Halloween luncheon was served. New members, John and Joan Swindells, were welcomed. Attendance winners were Frances Robitaille and Erma Gagnon; pot-of-gold, Birdena Whittle, Shirley Huntley and Florence Webber. There were 84 members present.
Officers for 2004 are: board of directors, honorary member Audrey Fleming, Irving Grant, Joan Webb, Robert Ryerson, Betty Hebert and Kaye DeBurra; president, Dorothy Larrabee; vice president, Merry Strout; treasurer, Irving Grant; recording secretary, Caroline Chapman; correspondence secretary, Shirley Hawkins; chaplain, Bernice Parks; floral committee chairman, Frances Robitaille; and membership chairman, Lucy Cowles. Installation will take place in January. There will be no meetings in November and December.

Parent conferences
LISBON – Lisbon High School will be holding parent-teacher conferences from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Parents are encouraged to pick up report cards during these hours and then meet with teachers. Administrators, guidance counselors and support staff also will be available.
OES meeting
AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. All Eastern Star members are welcome. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the meeting.
Seniors memorial
AUBURN – New Auburn Senior Citizens will hold a memorial service for deceased members at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at St. Louis Church All members are encouraged to attend. After the service there will be a turkey dinner in the church basement. Cost is $3 for members only. Tickets are on sale until Wednesday, Nov. 12.
The group met Nov. 5 with President Virginia Levasseur. New members are Roland Berry, Cornelia Berry and Hilda Guerin. Named to the nominating committee were Conrad Levasseur, Norm Gagnon and Lucille Arsenault. Elections will be held at the Dec. 3 meeting. Anyone interested in taking an office should contact the committee.
The Christmas party will be held Sunday, Dec. 14, at Martindale with social hour from 11 a.m. to noon and dinner following. Choices will be fish, beef or chicken. Cost is $7 and membership card will be needed. Pot-of-gold winners were Marie Gagnon, Rita Beaucage, Yolande Labonte and Jeannette Soule.
