FARMINGTON – Western Mountains Hockey and Skating Association will hold its final meeting before the season starts for prospective players and their parents.

The meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in Roger Bolduc’s classroom, which is in the white modular building next to the back parking lot of Mt. Blue High School.

Although the meeting is at the high school, SAD 9 has nothing to do with the hockey program; it is not a school-sponsored activity.

The meeting is to decide on practice dates, discuss equipment and practice jerseys, fill out USA Hockey insurance forms and collect $175 from each player for dues ($150) and USA Hockey insurance ($25).

This insurance is supplementary to whatever insurance players may already have. Because the team is aligning themselves with USA Hockey, which is essential if they want to eventually play other teams, the Flyers can get discounted group rates on this required insurance.

$25 covers skaters for one year and each skater will get a monthly issue of the USA Hockey magazine.

All skaters will need their parents to fill out the brief USA Hockey insurance forms.

“We can virtually guarantee that kids will learn a lot and have a great deal of fun in the process,” said club President Jeff Leonards. By next year, the team expects to have its coaches certified through USA Hockey.

As skating and hockey skills progress, there will be scrimmages and eventually inter-league play under the banner of the Farmington Flyers. This program is open to youths ages 8 to 11. Practices will be held at Kents Hill School’s Alfond Arena, a newly-constructed indoor-arena.
