Josh Dyer died Sunday evening at Maine Medical Center.

PORTLAND (AP) – A 20-year-old Portland man died Sunday after being shot in the head a day earlier in what police are calling a drug-related shooting, officials said.

Josh Dyer died Sunday at Maine Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said. Dyer was found lying in front of his apartment building in the city’s east end at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday with a gunshot wound to the head, Portland police said.

Pedro Santiago, 30, is expected to make his initial court appearance Monday on a charge of murder.

Santiago was arrested without incident at about 2 a.m. Sunday at an apartment in Biddeford, Portland police said. No further details of Santiago’s arrest or his address were immediately available.

“Apparently Santiago sought out Dyer, went to his residence, there was an argument out in the street and Dyer was shot in the head,” Portland Police Chief Michael Chitwood said.

“More and more of the people involved in drug trafficking in our city are carrying guns,” Chitwood added.
