MEXICO – Selectmen will push for a traffic signal at the intersection of the Route 2 and Veterans Bridge when they meet on Wednesday. They will also schedule two special meetings and discuss the town manager’s job duties and a potential business venture in closed sessions.

The regular twice-monthly meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Board Chairman Arthur Bordeau said both Rumford and Mexico support the concept of the Maine Department of Transportation installing a traffic signal at the Route 2 side of Veterans Bridge. He said his board will try to determine the best approach to getting the light installed. Many have said the lack of a signal is potentially hazardous.

The board will also decide whether to ban parking along a portion of Route 17 at the north end of Orchard Street during the winter months.

Other items include discussions of personnel policies and access to police records and an update on the cost to replace two highway garage overhead doors.

Bordeau said a joint meeting of selectmen and the River Valley Technology Center will be set to discuss the community development block grant that the town received for use on the technology center. A Community Advisory Board meeting will be set to get an update on the paving and trail project at the rear of the town office and to learn the status of a federal grant to improve the appearance of building facades.

The board plans to discuss Town Manager Joseph Derouche’s job proposal and a possible business venture in closed sessions.
