The immigrants’ experiences and their impact on Lewiston is the discussion topic.

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington will sponsor a talk on “The Somali Community in Maine: Their Experiences in Lewiston and Their Impact on the City” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in Thomas Auditorium, in Ricker/Preble Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

Heather Lindkvist, an anthropologist researching the Somali community in Lewiston, will be joined by two Somalis to offer a panel discussion on issues and opportunities surrounding the recent influx of immigrants to that city.

It will also address the question of how citizens and educators can learn from their Somali neighbors and contribute to their integration into Maine communities. A question and answer session will follow the panel discussion, and refreshments will be served during an informal reception.

The presentation is sponsored by the UMF Diversity Committee. For more information, phone Valerie Huebner at 778-7258.
