The board will gather estimates on planning and construction.

PERU – Selectmen at Tuesday’s meeting discussed how the town will move toward compliance with a state law requiring that municipal sand and salt piles be kept in a containment building.

The board decided to gather some estimates on how much planning and construction might cost for different building designs.

It was suggested that the pile be relocated from the east side of town to a piece of land near the town’s center. This would save money by cutting down on labor, fuel and equipment maintenance and repair.

“It would be more than $10,000 and probably closer to $20,000,” said selectman Jim Pulsifer about the potential savings.

Road repair scheduling was also a topic at the meeting. Several board members, along with Road Commissioner David Gammon, discussed the advantages of having a long-term plan for projects to be completed.

“Plans can change,” suggested selectman Andrew St. Pierre, “but having a plan for what we can do over the next two or three years gets everybody on the same page.”
