1927 – 2003

LEWISTON – Veronica L. Malia, 76, of 42 Central Ave. died early Monday morning, Nov. 10, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Lewiston March 26, 1927, a daughter of William and Ida (Webb) Walton. She was educated in local schools, graduated from Lewiston High School and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

Mrs. Malia worked for many years as a bookkeeper at local auto dealerships until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s Ladies’ Sodality, The Golden Oldies Seniors’ Group, AARP, and Ombudsman’s, a volunteer group associated with AARP. She also volunteered at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for several years. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and traveling.

She leaves a daughter, Diane Callahan and husband Harold of Poland Spring; two sons, Thomas Malia and wife Barbara of Lewiston and Tim Malia and wife Janice of Auburn; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Constance Bacon and husband Vance of West Paris, Patricia McCullough of Rumford, and Doris Albert and husband Anthony of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Lois Walton of Milpeters, Calif.; two brothers, William Walton and wife Ann of Sabattus and Frank Walton and wife Charlotte of Lisbon; and two brothers-in-law, Clarence Atwood of Bath and Michael Malia of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by an infant son, Timothy Joseph; two sisters, Mary Nichols of Oxford and Carolyn Atwood of Bath; and a brother, Leo Walton of Milpeters, Calif.
