WASHINGTON – Allen Iverson scored a season-high 40 points Tuesday night, winning a fast-paced scoring duel with Gilbert Arenas and leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 112-105 victory over the Washington Wizards.

Arenas scored a season-high 36 points in a game featuring two of the most exciting guards in the Eastern Conference. Iverson had more than his share of misses – he was 12-for-29 from the field – but he never stopped shooting.

Iverson also made 14 of 18 free throws. The 76ers went 24-for-26 from the line in the second half.

Arenas was 11-for-24 from the field, but made just 3 of 11 shots in the second half and fouled out with seven seconds to play. He was 9-for-14 from the line, including two key misses in the final two minutes as the 76ers finally pulled away in a game that was close for 31/2 quarters.

The 76ers played without starters Glenn Robinson (sprained ankle) and Kenny Thomas (bruised back), and Derrick Coleman didn’t play the second half because of the strained left knee that has bothered him all season. Samuel Dalembert picked up the slack for Coleman, scoring eight points and grabbing eight rebounds in the second half.

Dalembert finished with a career-high nine rebounds and 10 points. Larry Hughes scored a season-high 23 points for Washington.

Sonics 89, T-wolves 87

MINNEAPOLIS – Ronald Murray hit a jumper over Latrell Sprewell at the buzzer, capping his career-high 29-point performance and lifting the Seattle SuperSonics over the Minnesota Timberwolves 89-87.

Sprewell made a 3-pointer with 14.5 seconds left, tying it at 87. After a timeout, Murray held the ball at the top of the key until about five seconds remained and then drove at Minnesota’s top defender.

Murray’s turnaround shot from the left side bounced around the rim a couple of times and nearly rolled out before dropping in.

Murray also had six rebounds and eight assists, including two key passes down the stretch.

Reserve Jerome James scored 14 points and Brent Barry added 13 as the Sonics snapped a nine-game losing streak in Minnesota. Rashard Lewis, the NBA’s second-leading scorer, had just 11 points on 4-for-14 shooting.

Kevin Garnett had 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Timberwolves. Sprewell scored 20 points and Sam Cassell had 15 points and 13 assists.
