LEWISTON – Volunteers of America Northern New England and the Region II Children’s Cabinet are partnering to provide new services to homeless youth in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

The Homeless Youth Intervention Program is an outreach program for youth between the ages of 10 and 17. The program provides individualized case management services to the youth and assists them in finding the support they need to help keep them off the streets.

It includes shelter, food, money, medical and dental care, mental health services, substance abuse services, family treatment and counseling and life-skill development. Funding was made possible by a collaboration between the Lewiston/Auburn Homeless Youth Task Force and the Region II Children’s Cabinet.

Referrals will come from a variety of sources. Anyone who comes into contact with a youth who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless may make a referral. That includes law enforcement officials, school personnel, community members, service professionals, local agencies servicing youth and youths themselves.

For more information, contact Bill Lagasse, homeless youth case manager, at 783-4317.
