JAY – School Committee members are scheduled to hold a student disciplinary hearing Thursday before tackling a lengthy agenda.

Among the items to be considered are appointments to extracurricular positions and the cost of a nearly $17,000 assessment of the school department’s buildings.

The meeting will be open just before 5:45 p.m. at the Middle School library.

Committee members are expected to then enter an executive session to discuss the board’s legal rights and duties in conducting a student disciplinary hearing behind closed doors.

At 6 p.m. another executive session is to begin in order to hold the hearing.

Superintendent Robert Wall said he didn’t know how long the hearing would take.

The agenda states that at approximately 7:30 p.m. the committee would consider the minutes from October’s meeting.

Wall has nominated more than 15 candidates to fill athletic, drama and other extra curricular activities.

Additionally, Kelly Lizotte is nominated to fill the position of curriculum administrative assistant II at the Central Office.

Wall is also recommending approval of a proposal by James Sewall Co. to perform a facilities’ assessment at the cost of $16,680.

Half of the cost would be reimbursed by the state, Wall said. The remaining money is already included in this year’s budget.

The purpose of the study is to collect data from an impartial company on the integrity, health and maintenance of the buildings. That information will be used to develop capital projects for things that need upgrading.

The company would use software to conduct the study on the 220,400 square feet of buildings owned by the school department.

The project is part of a state effort to better manage educational facilities, Wall said.

Thursday’s meeting is expected to conclude with two executive sessions, one on a grievance and the other on teacher and educational support staff negotiations.
