HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) – Greg Biffle won the pole Thursday for the season-ending NASCAR Busch series race on the reconfigured Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Biffle, who also races Sunday in his regular Winston Cup ride, got his second Busch pole of the season with a lap of 177.416 mph in a Chevrolet. That easily eclipsed Jeff Green’s year-old Busch track record of 152.031 mph.

The 1-mile oval was transformed this year from a basically flat layout to one with variable degrees of bank from 6 to 20 degrees. That enabled the entire field of 43 qualifiers to smash Green’s record.

Bobby Hamilton Jr. will share the front row with Biffle for Saturday’s Ford 300 after posting a lap of 177.352 in a Ford.

“We’ve always run strong here, but it’s a totally different animal now,” Hamilton Jr. said. “With the different track and the different tire, there are all kinds of puzzles to figure out before Saturday.”

Points leader Brian Vickers will start sixth. David Green, 22 points behind Vickers, will go from the 12th spot on the grid.

Ron Hornaday, 39 points off the lead, will start 17th. Jason Keller, 70 points back, was only 30th. Scott Riggs, 85 points behind, starts 20th.

Hamilton sixth in the standings, just 89 points out, isn’t worried about his final position in the championship chase.

“Overall, in reality, you can get to about fourth,” he said. “Those guys in front will have to have a little bit of bad luck and we’re going to have to win the race or something.”

Kasey Kahne qualified third in a Ford at 176.864.

He was followed by Winston Cuppers Kevin Harvick and Jamie McMurray. Harvick, whose finish of 14th last week in Rockingham, N.C., gave Richard Childress Racing the Busch owner’s title, went 176.846 in a Chevy. McMurray, the Rockingham race winner, was clocked at 176.713 in a Dodge.
