LEWISTON – SeniorsPlus has been brightening the December holiday season for homebound seniors living in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties for the past 14 years through the Holiday Gift Bag Project, which provides 225 seniors with personally delivered gift bags filled with practical and useful items.
Some of the items include notecards and stamps, hand lotion, night light, and lip balm and fun items such as playing cards, handmade crafts and an amaryllis plant. Often, local businesses and organizations donate something from their own inventory for the gift bag.
Each year one sponsor is needed to cover the cost of 225 amaryllis plants. The cost to underwrite the plants is $1,000. If a business or organization has a small item that seniors may find useful, consider donating 225 of the items.
A monetary gift will help defray the cost of purchasing the gift items that are put into the bag. Any additional money collected helps seniors meet critical needs for which no other funding sources are available. The sum of $20 will sponsor one gift bag.
Each gift bag has a tag on which the business name would appear. For more information, contact Linda Bilodeau at 1-800-427-1241, extension 113.
