AUGUSTA – The Associated Builders and Contractors and the Downeast Construction Education Foundation will host the fourth annual craft Olympics and career fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Augusta Civic Center.

More than 600 high school students from vocational technical centers around the state are expected to attend. Craft competitions and floor demonstrations will begin at 8 a.m. and there will be an ongoing job fair.

POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the old schoolhouse, Poland Corner. A potluck supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will follow. A slide presentation on Poland’s past will follow. The public is invited. Call 998-4391 for details.

Thanksgiving meal

AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 19, to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Martindale Country Club. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and festivities will begin at 11:45. A singing duo, the Jubilees, will entertain after the turkey meal.

The club welcomed a new member, Eleanor Simard, on Nov. 5. Loretta Martin of the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department announced trips to see matinees of “Cats” on Saturday, Nov. 22, and “The Magic of Christmas” on Friday, Dec. 19, at Merrill Auditorium, Portland.

Joyce Poole reported on the mystery trip and the New Year’s Eve party to be held in Nashua, N.H.

Attendance winners were Joan Cyr and Theda Fyfe; pot of gold, Norma Gyure, Mary St. Pierre and Lucille Rybeck. Bingo was played after a bag lunch.

LEWISTON – Post 22, American Legion, will hold its monthly membership meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Trinity Episcopal Church Hall, 247 Bates St.

The guest speaker will be State Sen. Peggy Rotundo, who will speak on veterans legislation on the state and national level. All members are asked to attend as there will be information concerning veterans of all eras.

The agenda is as follows: membership and financial update; preparation for Post 22 Christmas party and meeting on Dec. 18; special report from service officer Joseph Paradis; and other matters concerning the post.

Pomona meeting

BATH – Sagadahoc Pomona, which includes community granges in Sagadahoc County and Brunswick, will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at West Bath Grange. Supper will be $4. Glenis Elliot from Tri-County Literacy Volunteers will present a short program and answer questions after the supper. The meeting will follow her program. Members are asked to take ideas for community service projects.

Collect food

POLAND – Poland Cub Scout Pack 125 collected 303 items of nonperishable food for the Poland Food Closet through the Scouting for Food drive in October.

The Bear Den raked leaves at the First Congregational Church in Gray on Nov. 9 as a community project. The pack has been asked to collect food for the holidays at Marden’s in Lewiston on Saturday, Nov. 15. The items will benefit the Lewiston area.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at Schooner Estates on Nov. 12 were: N/S, first, Tom Dahlberg and David Wallace; second, Patricia Garcia and Jeanine Kivus; third, Bjorn Axelson and Mike St. John

E/W, first/second tie, Bill Adams and Jim Flanagan with John Hackett and Ray Sirois; third, Les Buzzell and Mike Quinn.

Calling crafters

RICHMOND – Crafters and collectors who need an inexpensive, local outlet for their products are invited to participate in the Christmas Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Enterprise Grange 48, Alexander Reed Road. To reserve an eight-foot table for $10, call Pauline at 737-8527.

There will be crafts, decorations, wreaths, gifts, collectibles, cookies, baked goods, old books, pre-owned paperbacks, doll raffles, a coffee shop and snack bar.

Due to the Cadrette family, there is a temporary handicapped access ramp. It is a Grange Community Service Project to answer the needs of local senior citizens.
