1942 – 2003

AUGUSTA – John F. Petty, 61, of Kinderhook Street, Randolph, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, Nov. 14, at Maine General Hospital with his family at his side.

He was born in Festus, Mo., March 8, 1942, a son of William and Pauline Chatreau Petty. He grew up and was educated in Missouri schools prior to relocating to this area while in the service.

On July 18, 1965, he married the former Emily Crafts.

He first served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1965, and later served active duty as a captain in the United States Army as an anaesthetist from 1976 to 1983 after graduating from USM in 1975. He had obtained his nursing degree and was currently employed as a registered nurse with Robinson’s Health Care in Gardiner.

He was a member of Shiloh Chapel in Durham and enjoyed classical music, birds and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was also an avid sports fan of NASCAR and the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the New England Patriots.

He leaves his wife of 38 years, Emily, of Randolph; two sons, Johnathan S.C. Petty and his wife Breehanna of Monmouth, and Jeremy D. Petty and his wife Darlene of Winthrop; three grandchildren, Natalie A. Petty, and David and April Simonds; three great-grandchildren, Bryce and Autumn Kendall, and David Simonds Jr.; three sisters, Josephine Moore and her husband Richard of St. Genevieve, Mo., Mary Ann England of Henderson, Nev., and Ruth Kirk and her husband David of St. Claire, Mo., and one brother, Bill Petty of Darden, Tenn.
