All children in the area are invited to participate.

NORWAY – A new K-6 after-school program called “The Wednesday Kids” began this fall at the Second Congregational Church UCC of Norway. It runs from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays that school is in session.

All children in the area are invited to participate. It’s free.

“There is no charge for this program; it is a gift to you from the Second Congregational Church UCC,” according to Minister Elaine Tullis.

A visit to the program Wednesday found kids happily singing Sunday School songs, accompanied by the Rev. Tullis on guitar.

“We usually have nine (children) but we have room for more,” said Joan Parker, one of the program’s teachers. Parker works with Tullis, Deb Ladner and teacher’s helper Crystal Twitchell to fill the two hours with Bible stories, prayer, songs, games, crafts and snacks.

The children are bused from area elementary schools to the nearby Guy E. Rowe School, where the teachers pick them up and bring them over to the church, Parker said.

“Just bring yourself, a happy smile, and a cooperative attitude,” Tullis said.

Wednesday Kids will be in session Nov. 19, and Dec. 3, 10 and 17. In 2004, the dates are Jan. 14, 21 and 28; Feb. 4, 11, 25; March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; April 7, 21, 28; and May 5, 12, 19 and 26.
