AUGUSTA – November is National Hospice Month and local restaurants are showing their support for Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec Valley by participation in Dining for Hospice. Ten restaurants will donate a portion of their meal sales to hospice volunteers on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Hospice Volunteers of Kennebec Valley is a nonprofit organization providing emotional and practical support for persons living with a terminal illness and their families.

Volunteers also sponsor grief support groups for adults and the Grieving Children and Teen Program for children ages 3 to 18 who are learning to cope with the death of a loved one or friend. All of the services of hospice volunteers are free. The agency is supported primarily by donations from individuals, businesses, United Way, some municipalities and fund-raising such as Dining for Hospice.

Rob Turkington, member of the board of directors and chairman for the event, said 10 local restaurants have joined the Dining for Hospice. Signing on to donate a portion of the sales from meals are Laurias’ by the River in Augusta, Hattie’s Chowder House, Liberal Cup, Lucky Garden and Cafe Bangkok in Hallowell, Weathervane in Readfield, Village Inn and Wings Hill Inn in Belgrade Lakes and Pepper’s and Sullys in Winthrop.
