1926 – 2003
LEWISTON – Philip Buxton Prideaux Sr., 77, U.S. Navy Retired, of Oxford, died Sunday, Nov. 16, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
Born in Lynn, Mass., Nov. 7, 1926, the son of Margaret Buxton Prideaux and Frank Prideaux, he was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast.
He married Elaine Pulsifer on Nov. 22, 1950. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and the Korean War. After serving his country for 23 years on aircraft carriers, destroyers and recruiting in the United States Navy, he then worked for 16 years as the supervisor of buildings and grounds for S.A.D. 17. Some will remember him as dressing up as Santa Claus for all of the district’s elementary children, the hospital and retirement homes.
He loved playing golf, trail-biking and snowmobiling with family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Elaine of Oxford; a daughter, Laura P. and her husband, Russell Cummings of Oxford; a son, Phil of Turner; grandchildren, Jason of New Hampshire, Amanda of West Paris and Seth and Kate of Lewiston; great-grandchildren, Dylan of New Hampshire and Elana of West Paris; a sister, Jeanne and her husband, Stanley Curtis of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
