PARIS – The SAD 17 School Board, the Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club and the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Student Council honored Elaine Ambrose recently at a school board meeting in the middle school library.

Ambrose was named November Staff Member of the Month and received $100 from the high school Student Council. Her name has been added to the plaque sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Norway-Paris.

Ambrose began teaching in the Oxford Hills School District in 1974. She teaches first grade at the Waterford Memorial School. Susan Bradbury, the teacher who nominated Ambrose, describes her as a colleague who “makes every child feel special.” On the second day of this school year, a student who spoke only Spanish joined Ambrose’s first-grade class. The next day Ambrose came to school with all her worksheets in English and Spanish along with songs in both languages.

Anyone walking past her classroom will hear Spanish being spoken by all class members.
