NORWAY – Western Maine Health and the Substance Abuse Services Committee at Stephens Memorial Hospital will host a conference on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction: Disease, Treatment & Recovery Update No. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5.

The session is open to all area residents. It will be held in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building next to Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Bill Lowenstein, associate director of the Maine Office of Substance Abuse, is the featured speaker. Other scheduled speakers will be William Stockwell, a hospital trustee and chair of the committee; Susan Managan, Gateway Recovery Services; Ken McCullough, Community Concepts; John D. McElwee, district court judge, District 11; Bruce Curran, director, Maine Alliance for Addiction Recovery and an anonymous presentation about the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al Anon.

The conference cost is $10 per person with lunch provided. Preregistration is required; forms are at Community Concepts and in the lobbies of Stephens Memorial Hospital and the Ripley Medical building.

Scholarships are available.
