1915 – 2003

BIDDEFORD – Joseph Archer Knight, 88, a resident of Sinnott Road, Arundel, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Southern Maine Medical Center. He was the husband of Beverly Hall Knight, formerly of the Bethel area.

Mr. Knight was born in Arundel, Sept. 24, 1915, a son of Archer B. and Margie Morrill Knight. He attended Arundel schools and graduated from Kennebunkport High School. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal along with his Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Machinist Engineer for over 33 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, tending his wood lot and being a rock hound in collecting stones. He was a 50-year member of Arundel Lodge of Masons and served as Master of the Lodge in 1954. A 50-year member of Murray Chapter, Maine Council and St. Amand Commandery, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Portland, and a member of the Maine Consistory 32nd Valley of Portland.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly Hall Knight of Arundel; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Knight of Kennebunk; a cousin, Charlotte Potter of New Hampshire.
