MEXICO – The Mexico Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 in the Calvin Lyons meeting room at the lower back side of the town hall. There will be a potluck supper.

The society meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the same time and location unless otherwise specified. Dues are $5 a year and payable by Dec. 31. There will be a silent auction. Woods course

BETHEL – The final class of the Bethel Historical Society’s fall course Wood and Woods: Logging and Landscape will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, in the meeting room of the Dr. Moses Mason House. A panel discussion with a wide range of views represented will be the feature with questions and comments welcomed from the audience. The public is invited to attend.

Elder Issues

DIXFIELD – Elder Issues will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Dixfield American Legion, off Main Street behind Holmes Market. Healthy treats for the holidays will be presented by registered nurse Deborah Gorham of Rumford Hospital. This is a free monthly program of interest to elders and their families presented by Elsemore Dixfield Center. To register phone 562-4226.

Spaghetti supper

RUMFORD – A spaghetti supper to benefit the family of Monica Chenard will be held Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Eagles Hall. The first dinner seating will be at 5 p.m. followed by a second at 6 p.m., with special guest Gov. John Baldacci serving.

Advance tickets are available at Carlisle’s, through Sonja Janke at MeadWestvaco, at Mountain Valley High School, and at St. John’s School. Tickets for a benefit raffle with prizes such as a kayak, 100 gallons of oil and a gift certificate to Wallace’s Wheels are also available at those locations.

There will also be a Chinese auction of donated items.

Christmas party

BETHEL – The annual Christmas with the Masons will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Dr. Moses Mason House. The house will be decorated as it might have been in the 19th century with boughs, berries and fruit. Period music and refreshments will be offered with hot mull cider served from the hearth of the winter kitchen. There is no admission charge and everyone is welcome.
