BOSTON (AP) – Former Phillies manager Terry Francona was back in Boston for another round of interviews on Wednesday, a day after he met with Red Sox owner John Henry about the vacant Red Sox managerial job.
“I was impressed with his knowledge of the game and his forthrightness,” Henry said. “He is a serious candidate, but no decisions have been made.”
Los Angeles Dodgers coach Glenn Hoffman and Anaheim Angels bench coach Joe Maddon have also been interviewed for the chance to succeed Grady Little, who was let go at the end of the season. Francona was back at Fenway Park for another round of interviews on Wednesday.
“They’re following up with all of the candidates,” Red Sox spokesman Kevin Shea said.
The Red Sox initially said they hoped to complete the search by the end of November but later said they would try to finish before baseball’s winter meetings, which begin Dec. 12 in New Orleans.
“No other interviews have been set up yet, but we’re in the process of contacting additional candidates,” Shea said.
