Lewiston Adult Education is now offering classes at the new B Street Community Center located at the corner of Bates and Birch Streets in Lewiston. The Lewiston Adult Education space at the center includes two classrooms, an office for teachers, and use of the Lewiston-Auburn Community Computer Center. “We are pleased that this new space is enabling us to offer more classes during the day, and is increasing our opportunities to collaborate with other agencies.” states Anne Niemiec, director of Lewiston Adult Education. Other community center partners include the Lewiston Housing Authority, the B Street Health Center, Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, Advocates for Children, Empower Lewiston, Community Clinical Services, Community Concepts, Inc., and the Lewiston Police Department.
The B Street Community Center location gives downtown Lewiston residents easier access to many Lewiston Adult Education programs. Currently, the College Transition Program, some Adult Basic Education classes, and a few general interest classes are being held at this new site. A walkway connects the community center with the 292 Bates Street location of Lewiston Adult Education’s Even Start family literacy program, giving participants in that program increased access to Lewiston Adult Education classes and the services of other partners at the center.
Lewiston Adult Education continues to offer its programs at Lewiston High School and at the Adult Learning Center located in the Multi-Purpose Center, as well as at more than 20 other locations in the region. Updated information on all programs can be found on the Internet at www.lewiston.k12.me.us/~laeweb/ or by calling 795-4141.
