FARMINGTON – Sara Carter of Farmington, a Mount Blue High School senior, has been nominated to compete in the National Principal’s Leadership Award scholarship program, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Mount Blue Principal Gregory Potter announced the nomination. One hundred fifty national winners will be chosen in the spring to receive $1,000 college scholarships.
Nominees were selected based on their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs; achievements in the arts and sciences; employment experience and academic record. They were also required to write an essay.
“Carter has demonstrated excellence in the classroom and in her community,” said Potter. “MBHS is proud to recognize such an impressive young person.”
In recognizing leadership in co-curricular activities as well as academic performance, the scholarship recognizes the importance of a well-rounded education.
Carter has been a member of NHS for two years, an events coordinator for NHS, a secretary for Student Cougar Council, a peer tutor for the Writing Center, a history aide and a freshman buddy.
Carter is also involved in varsity girls soccer, varsity track and field, curtain raisers, Mount Blue Theatre Co., teen faith discussion group and band where she plays the clarinet. She volunteers at Franklin Memorial Hospital, the Fairbanks Food Closet and is a soccer coach for the Farmington Recreation Department.
