HONOLULU, Hawaii -Heather Ernest notched 27 points and 10 rebounds in the University of Maine’s season-opening 82-70 loss to Washington in tournament action at the University of Hawaii on Saturday.
Maine trailed by three at halftime before the Huskies pulled away. Andrea Lalum led Washington with 28 points, while Giuliana Mendiola added 21. Mendiola also chalked up eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Ashley Underwood added 11 points and Julie Veilleux poured in 10 for the Black Bears, who meet Hawaii in today’s consolation game.
Melissa Heon dished out four assists for Maine.
The Black Bears went 20-for-24 from the free-throw line.
