JAY – Selectmen voted Monday to issue Town Manager Ruth Marden a new three-year contract. The agreement, which goes into effect July 1, 2004, gives Marden a 3 percent salary increase each of the contract years.

“I think she has done an outstanding job,” Selectmen Barry McDonald said.

Selectman Rick Simoneau agreed.

“Nothing but glowing remarks,” Chairman Bill Harlow said.

For the first year of the contract, which runs through 2007, Marden’s salary is $54,106.

During the second year, she is scheduled to receive $55,729 and in the third year, $57,401.

Selectmen agreed to pay through the Maine Municipal Association Benefit Trust, 100 percent of Marden’s costs for health insurance (individual rate), life insurance to equal one year’s salary and disability insurance.

In addition, selectmen agree to pay 90 percent of the health insurance benefit for each of the employee’s eligible dependents.

During the first year of the contract, Marden is entitled to 13 days vacation; second year, 15 days of vacation; and third year, 17 days of vacation.
