For the future golfer on your list, this might just be the perfect fun golf gift. . .

It’s a product that’s been called the BMX of the golfing world – and one that is attracting the attention of the scratch golfer, the weekend hacker and hacky-sackers. The new AlmostGolf Ball is a lightweight, high performance, off-course golf ball that has the true flight pattern of a real ball, yet flies just half the distance, making it safe for use in backyards, parks and schools and campuses.

“It was our intention to make the wiffle-type golf ball and the blow-molded plastic golf ball things of the past,” says Rob Peterson, AlmostGolf founder and Marketing Director. “People call it the ‘softball of golf’ because it can be used anytime, anywhere; it’s the first indestructible, consistently performing ball on the market-and it’s safe.”

What is an AlmostGolf Ball?

Each patent-pending AlmostGolf Ball weighs just over 13.5 grams – about five times the weight of hollow practice balls. A proprietary blend of elastic polymers keeps the flight distance to about half that of a regular ball. The AlmostGolf Ball is balanced for true spin, trajectory and accuracy. The ball’s ultra-light weight and its reduced coefficient of restitution help propel it a consistent limited distance. The AlmostGolf Ball actually has a core rating of .35 (golf balls are .72) resulting in a ball with real golf ball action. The ball’s firm skin compresses slightly upon impact, but immediately resumes its shape, giving the ball a real “pop” off the clubface and real action in the air.

AlmostGolf also comes with some unique accessories including the AstroShag, a 4×8 inch piece of AstroTurf used as a tee-off surface to prevent divots from damaging the playing area. “Now kids and teens can hook into golf like I hooked into Frisbee Golf as a kid,” he says. “All they need is a club, a few AlmostGolf Balls and an AstroShag and they could play through their whole neighborhood.”

Because the AlmostGolf Ball can be used safely and without causing damage, it has unique applications like parties, corporate team challenges and charity fundraisers.

Unprofessional AlmostGolfers Tour

The company is also launching the Unprofessional AlmostGolfers Tour, where golfers play over, around and through some of the country’s most prestigious college campuses and corporate parks. In fact, the company is working with the Collegiate Golf Alliance this fall setting up “hole-in-one” competitions at 50 college campuses nationwide to help grow each school’s golf program. The company plans to expand distribution into Europe and Japan and launch the Unprofessional AlmostGolfers Tour by Spring 2004.

Almost Golf products range in price from $12 per dozen to $49 for a bucket of 5 dozen balls and are available at stores like Edwin Watts, Golf Smith, Golf Galaxy, Roger Dunn, Galyans, online at: http://www.almostgolfball.com or by calling 800.998.1077.
