AUBURN – Steven Dostie, Greater Androscoggin Humane Society shelter director, announces that all animals adopted through the shelter will now receive free pet health insurance.

In an effort to show the community that the Humane Society is the best choice when it is time to add a new pet to the family, every animal adopted through the shelter will come with two months of free ShelterCare pet health insurance.

The ShelterCare insurance is designed to cover illnesses common to shelter dogs and cats, plus any unexpected accidents that may occur as the adopted pet adjusts to new family life. After 60 days, the adopter will have the option to continue the insurance and enroll in the program.

The Humane Society provides a safe haven for approximately 3,600 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fund-raising events and donations of concerned residents.

The shelter gives back through community services, including animal intake and adoption, animal health services, reuniting people with lost animals, humane education and working with individuals who are disadvantaged or developmentally disabled. The shelter serves 10 municipalities, including Lewiston, Auburn, Turner and Greene, and a population of more than 90,000 people.

The shelter is located at 3312 Hotel Road. If interested in learning more adopting a pet, call 783-2311 or visit the Web at www.gahumane.org.
