The recent killing and maiming of domestic elk in the Oxford area by irresponsible imbeciles is inexcusable, but should not come as a big surprise.

There are too many selfish individuals in this society who believe they can own a weapon to obtain power and control in order to fulfill a desperate psychological need that is obviously lacking in their own lives.

I do favor gun control, but I can understand a family’s need to put food on the table. Yet these senseless acts of violence and abuse are an assault on all of us and serves as a grim reflection to the future of generations to come.
