JAY – Roger J. Gingras, 81, of Intervale Road in Jay, died Friday morning, Nov. 28, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 8, 1922 in Jay, the son of Joseph and Clorilda Chabot Gingras, and attended the Jay schools. On May 19, 1951 he married Betty Ann Given at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. She passed away Feb. 7, 1998. Roger worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp. and was a shipbuilder in Portland during World War II. He worked for International Paper Co. in Jay at the Livermore, Otis and Riley Mills in the Groundwood Dept., Jay Powerhouse and as a custodian at the Androscoggin Mill. He retired in 1982 after 34 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and trapping. Also in his spare time he enjoyed metal detecting with his nephew Rick LaBrecque and playing the harmonica.

He is survived by: a son and his wife, R. Paul and Genelle Gingras of Wilton; three daughters, Wanda Gingras of Auburn, Alison Gingras and her husband, Noel Brown, of Augusta, and Jill Gingras of Jay; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a loving friend, Gerry Glidden. He was predeceased by two daughters, Ann and Freida Gingras, a great-granddaughter, Amber Rose Pond, two brothers, Emile and Maurice Gingras, and two sisters, Alice Rea and Lucille Labrecque.
