LEWISTON — Jeanette T. Mason, 72, of Norway died Friday, Nov. 28, at Central Maine Medical Center as a result of injuries received in from an accident in her home.

She was born on May 9, 1931, the daughter of Alton J. and Mabell Davis Thurston. She was a graduate of Norway High School in 1949.

On Sept. 2, 1951, she married Lloyd J. Mason at the Norway Center Church.

She served on the Board of Trustees of the Norway Library, and was a member of the Norway Planning Board and the Stephens Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board.

In her younger years, she worked as an operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, and assisted her husband Lloyd in Woodman’s Sporting Goods Store. In more recent years, she worked for 14 years at Norway Savings Bank, retiring in 1993.

She loved to travel throughout the country, especially to national and state parks as well as wildlife sanctuaries, with her husband. She was happiest going on a trip with a road map in her lap. She was an avid bird watcher, flower gardener, and in later years enjoyed eating out, doing word puzzles and watching the Patriots, golf and NASCAR on television.

Family gatherings were a source of great enjoyment and she took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Lloyd, of Norway; a son, James and his wife Lynn of Norway Center; a sister-in-law, Jean M. Roberts of South Portland; a daughter-in-law, Michelle and her husband David of Allen Park, Mich.; three grandchildren, Ricky and his companion Jessica Morse, Tracy and her fiancé Lance Clark of Norway Center, and Mysha of Cambridge, Mass.; plus her newest pride and joy, great-grandchild Jacob.

She was a proud and independent woman and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
