NEW YORK – Mats Sundin scored the go-ahead goal and assisted on an insurance tally, and Trevor Kidd made 33 saves in his first game this season to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-2 victory Sunday night over the New York Rangers.

Sundin broke a 2-all tie just 34 seconds after the Rangers got even. Toronto was on the power play after New York’s Matthew Barnaby went after Owen Nolan seconds after the Toronto forward got out of the penalty box.

Kidd made his season debut after sitting out 24 games following shoulder surgery.

Tom Fitzgerald, Darcy Tucker and Mikael Renberg also scored for the Leafs, who won their fifth straight following a five-game winless streak (0-2-2-1).

Alex Kovalev and Jan Hlavac had goals for the Rangers, whose four-game unbeaten run ended (3-0-1).

Mighty Ducks 1, Wild 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sandis Ozolinsh scored late in the second period, lifting Anaheim to a 1-1 tie with the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night, the Ducks’ 11th straight game without a regulation loss.

Anaheim is 4-0-3-4 during its streak. The Wild have won just once in their last eight games (1-5-2-0).

Wes Walz gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead 2:10 into the game when he faked a shot from the right of the net, then wrapped the puck in from the left side before Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere could slide across and make the save.

Kings 2, Stars 1

DALLAS – Jaroslav Modry scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period, sending the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Sunday night.

With the score tied at 1, Modry skated in from behind the net and lifted a shot over Stars goaltender Marty Turco at 17:02 of the second period.

Roman Cechmanek made 18 saves for the Kings, 3-3-0 in their last six games. Cechmanek was pressured in the second period when the Stars had five power plays and 14 shots, but Dallas converted just once, on Sergei Zubov’s power-play goal.

Sharks 2, Oilers 1

EDMONTON – Patrick Marleau scored late in the second period, and Vesa Toskala stopped 35 shots to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.

Toskala’s best save came late in the third period when he made an acrobatic arm save on a shot by Raffi Torres to keep ahead by one.

Marleau scored with 4:03 left in the second for San Jose. Brad Stuart added a power-play goal for the Sharks on their only shot of the first period.

Devils 1, Avalanche 1

DENVER – Colorado’s David Aebischer stopped 27 shots and New Jersey’s Martin Brodeur had 25 saves in a tight-checking 1-1 tie between the Avalanche and Devils on Sunday night.

New Jersey’s Erik Rasmussen scored his first goal since last Feb. 5, and Brodeur improved to 10-1-3 his last 14 starts. The Devils, coming off their first road loss Friday against Dallas, are 5-1-4 away from home.

Milan Hejduk scored his 14th goal for Colorado, 9-2-2-1 its past 14 games. Aebischer improved to 7-1-1 his last nine starts.

, matching Brodeur almost save for save.

Colorado had plenty of good scoring chances in the third period, but Brodeur was there each time.

He opened by stopping Jordan Krestanovich and Rob Blake on consecutive shots early, then got his stick over just in time to block Travis Brigley’s shot from just outside the crease.

Brodeur also dived to poke the puck from Hejduk a few seconds later and stopped a Colorado power play that started with 2 minutes left.

Aebischer wasn’t bad, either.

He blocked Scott Stevens’ hard shot from the point midway through the third, then stuffed John Madden’s one-timer from just outside the crease. Aebischer also squeezed Jeff Friesen’s shot on a short breakaway late in overtime.

Hejduk opened the scoring with 4:29 left in the second period, one-timing a pass from Alex Tanguay over a sprawled Brodeur.

New Jersey needed just 1:13 to answer on a pinball shot by Rasmussen.

Rasmussen wound up with the puck between the circles after a shot by Paul Martin bounced around through traffic. Aebischer stretched to block the shot with the inside of his right leg, but it caromed back off his left leg and trickled into the net.

Neither team had many scoring chances in a tight-checking first period – 13 combined shots – but New Jersey picked up the pace in the second period. So did Aebischer.

He opened by gloving Stevens’ hard shot from the left circle, then turned away five more on Martin Skoula’s four-minute high-sticking penalty. Aebischer followed by stopping Turner Stevenson from the left faceoff dot, and made a stick save on Brian Gionta on a short breakaway.

Blake nearly beat Brodeur from the blue line in the first minute of the second period, but Colorado didn’t have another shot until Andrei Nikolishin’s shot was kicked away with 61/2 minutes left.

Notes: Colorado C Cody McCormick didn’t play after breaking his left ring finger in a fight Thursday night against Calgary. … The Avalanche placed C Peter Forsberg on injured reserve with an abdominal muscle strain before the game, but he isn’t expected to be there long. The move was retroactive to Nov. 9, meaning Forsberg could have played against the Devils. … New Jersey RW Jamie Langenbrunner will be out two to three weeks after having knee surgery Sunday. … Nikolishin, back after missing three games with a sprained knee, played in his 600th NHL game.
