1915 – 2003

LEWISTON – Roland E. LaBonte Sr., 87, of 136 Merrill Road, Lewiston died early Monday morning, Dec. 1, at d’Youville Pavilion following a long illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 17, 1915, the son of John and Alberta (Lebrun) LaBonte and had been a resident of this community all of his life.

He married Jeanne Baril on Feb. 22, 1941, and she died on July 23, 1999.

He was employed as a fixer in the textile industry at the Hill Mill. Later he was employed at St. Peter’s Cemetery as a caretaker until his retirement. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying gardening and nature. He also enjoyed music and playing the harmonica.

He is survived by one son, Roland P. LaBonte Jr. and his wife Linda of Lewiston; two daughters, Rolande Lachapelle and her husband Maurice of Monmouth and Rejeanne Bosse and her husband Roger of Lewiston; two brothers, Oscar LaBonte and his wife Aline of Sabattus and Joseph LaBonte and his wife Agnes of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Jerry Lachapelle and his wife Kelly of Maryland, Christine Lachapelle of Winthrop, Lisa Begin and her husband Michael of Auburn and Tina Begin and her husband Greg of Lewiston; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Lachapelle and Ryan and Emma Begin; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Romeo E. LaBonte; one sister, Blanche Rioux; and three brothers, Normand, Aime and Louis LaBonte.
