METHUEN, Mass. – Sister Celia R. Moore, 73, and a member of the Presentation of Mary Order, died Monday, Dec. 1, at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital Medical Center.
Born in Lewiston, Sister Celia entered into religious life in 1949 in Hudson, N.H., and made her religious profession Aug. 15, 1951, in Hudson taking the religious name Sister Mutien-Marie.
Sister Celia was a missionary in Gambia and Senegal in Africa for 30 years. She taught on the secondary level and also worked in the formation of the young African sisters.
She returned to the United States in 1999 for health reasons. She then retired at the Ste. Claire residence in Methuen. Prior to her years in Africa, Sister Celia was a teacher in PMA schools in Chicopee, Mass., Biddeford and Burlington, Vt.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Chabot and Mrs. Monica Shepherdson.
