Don’t let the long name intimidate you! “Forum,” for short, will keep you rolling with laughter straight through. Although it is a musical, its focus is on comedy and it shows with every scene and number.

Created in 1962 and based on Ancient Roman plays, “Forum” combines a loose sense of history with a modern-day comedic relief. It tells the story of a slave named Pseudolus (Matt Despres) who is willing to do anything to gain his freedom from his young master, Hero (Ethan Boardman). The clever Pseudolus purposes to buy his freedom from Hero buy getting him Philia (Hannah Giasson) a courtesan that he fell in love when he saw her in a window. Of course not having the financial means to buy this girl, Psuedolus resorts to a more cunning plan that of course backfires but still works out in the end.

Forum has a slapstick nature and is intended to amuse any audience. Accomplishing this only through the cast members who perform “Forum,” the play owes much of its humor to the students who have undertaken hours of rehearsal to precisely make every scene as amusing as possible.

From the cast, strong performances are expected from our senior leads Brianna Knox. Matt Pettengill, Matt Despres, Peter Westcott and Jason Riethman, all of whom more than know their way around the stage. Sophomore Markus Schlotterbeck and junior Ethan Boardman, both of whom have been in multiple plays in the past, also have well deserved lead roles. Senior Jake Sasseville takes on the role of the humorous Erronious, adding laughs with his reoccurring trip.

Hannah Giasson, Hannah Schlotterbeck, Katrin Bjarne, Gretehen Steams and Raechel Biron as twins, Kate Speer, Elizabeth Dulac, Joanna Cogan, Jodie Faucher, Briana Levesque, and Amy Churchill all appear as courtesans.

Moriah Churchill, Tara Churchill, Jessamyn Hertell-Hopkins, Amanda Pelletier, Martina Schumann are attendants to the courtesan.

Chris Keene and Ryan Delorme are the Roman senators, with their wives Maria Kovacs and Ally Thomas.

For additional comedic relief, “Forum” offers the Proteans played by Strawberry Pinkham, Crystal Knight, Brandon Kelly and Chris Judd as well as soldiers Seth Edwards, Mike Flynn, Cameron Goulet and Kevin Koski.

As the Citizens of Rome Jayme Burns, Aimee Poulin, Jesslyn Lawler, Michelle Brodeur, Alicia Malo, and Megan Skilling collectively form the ensemble.

“Forum,” with a $5 admission, will be performed December 5 and 6 at the Great Falls Auditorium. Don’t miss it!
