A gala with guests U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe and Gov. John Baldacci will also be held.

AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library’s building campaign has reached its goal and will celebrate victory on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

The three-year fundraising campaign has attracted 1,450 donors and over 300 volunteers.

“This is an historic moment for our library and for our community, said Barbara Trafton, campaign chairwoman. “We have achieved a unique public-private partnership to restore and expand the original 1904 structure and make it ready for another century of service.”

The library staff invites the public to celebrate the victory by visiting the library between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

An honor roll of donors will be on display in the circulation area. Each department will have materials on the enhanced features and spaces of the new library.

Staff will greet visitors and answer questions about the building project.

At noon, artist Sharon Townshend will talk about the Great Falls mural that she has been commissioned to create for the entrance to the new library. An artistic rendering of the mural design will be on exhibit.

In the evening, Hilton Garden Inn/Riverwatch will host a gala with guests U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, honorary campaign chairwoman; and Gov. John Baldacci.

The special reception for donors at the Great Falls mural level will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the grand ballroom. The Webster School Chamber Singers will perform for the anticipated gathering of 250 supporters of the library’s Building For Our New Century Campaign.

Trafton will serve as master of ceremonies with remarks from trustee President Beth Sheppard, Mayor Norm Guay and members of the Campaign Steering Committee.
