FARMINGTON – Selectmen are looking for ways to pare down $3.8 million in budget requests for 2004. As it stands, the spending plan reflects about a 7.1 percent increase over this year’s spending.

Budget review is expected to be ongoing until the numbers are finalized in early January, Town Manager Richard Davis said.

Selectmen and the Budget Committee are looking over proposals for municipal spending, he said.

Selectmen have identified possible budget cuts in nearly every town account, he added.

There are three categories that are not within the town’s control, Davis said: the ambulance subsidy, a cemetery proposal and property insurance.
