OTISFIELD – Board of Selectmen Chairman Gerry Robinson signed the submittal form for the updated Comprehensive Plan during their meeting Wednesday night.

Once Comp Plan Committee Chairman Jim Bishop signs the plan it will be submitted to the state for review.

“Even if it isn’t back from the state by March town meeting, we will vote on it,” Selectman Lenny Adler said.

The draft plan is an update to the plan adopted in 1991. Over the summer the selectmen pulled the draft off a special town meeting warrant for what they called issues raised by the town attorney and because it had not been submitted for review by the state. Since that happened in June, the legal issues have been resolved.

In other business, the board scheduled the annual junkyard permit review for 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, during their regularly scheduled meeting.

Recreation Director Marianne Izzo-Morin reminded the board about the annual Lisa Rae Bean-Thurston memorial Christmas tree lighting slated for Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Otisfield Town Office on Route 121. The lighting is preceded by a community holiday dinner at Otisfield Community School.

At the tree lighting Christmas caroling will start at 7 p.m., while waiting to hear Santa’s sleigh bells and Santa himself will light the Christmas tree.

Lights in memory or honor of loved ones are available and may be purchased through December for $2.50 each at the town office. Proceeds benefit the children of the community because they are donated to the Otisfield Scholarship Fund.

Refreshments will be served following the tree lighting and anyone wishing to donate goodies should bring them to the event or drop off during the day Friday at the town office.
