Holiday events at Franklin Memorial Hospital include a festival of seasonal music Friday.
FARMINGTON – A 20-foot indoor holiday tree went up Thursday in Franklin Memorial Hospital’s G.H. Bass Conference Room. It was donated by the family of the late George H. Bass.
Hospital President Richard Batt said, “With the addition of this beautiful tree, the Bass Room in our new Ben Franklin Center for health education is now ready for our noontime holiday music concerts on Thursday and Friday this week, our Festival of Holiday Music on Friday evening, and special family activities, including a visit from Santa and horse-drawn wagon rides, planned for Chester Greenwood Day on Saturday afternoon.”
Joanne Bass O’Connor, who spoke on behalf of the Bass family, said, “This is something we wanted to do for people here, both hospital employees and the people who will gather in this room for holiday concerts and activities. My father, who was very fond of community gatherings, particularly at holiday time, would have loved it.”
The three days of holiday happenings at the hospital celebrate its first holiday season since completion a two-year renovation and expansion project.
Friday’s celebration kicks off at noon with the Mount Blue Middle School chorus and show choir performing holiday classics. The concert is expected to last about 30 minutes. Those attending are invited to bring a bag lunch.
The Festival of Holiday Music featuring two vocal groups will take place Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It opens with the Syncopations, the 16-member women’s choral group from Mount Blue High School that has been selected to play at Carnegie Hall in March. An intermission between vocal groups will feature a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” with pages projected onto a big screen. At 7:45 p.m. the Mount Blue Voices, a 15-member a cappella vocal ensemble from the high school, will perform.
On Saturday as part of Chester Greenwood Day festivities, a community holiday celebration will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Some of the activities include a craft room, a kids’ ($1 or less) gift shop, a holiday card contest, horse-drawn wagon rides, storybook readings, healthy holiday recipes and tips, guided hikes to the yurt, Santa and free refreshments.
All activities taking place are open to the public and free, with the exception of the $1 or less kids’ gift shop.
