LEWISTON – A craft fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7, at Blake Street Towers, 70 Blake St. There will be crafts and baked goods, hot dogs, chili rolls, muffins, coffee and tea. Toll road, fair

MONMOUTH – The Monmouth Firemen’s Auxiliary will hold a voluntary toll road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in front of the Monmouth Center Fire Station. It will be held in conjunction with the Auxiliary craft fair running the same hours at the station. Funding will help the fire department.

Look good

LEWISTON – A Look Good … Feel Better American Cancer Society program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Central Maine Medical Center’s Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center.

A volunteer from the National Cosmetology Association will teach a small group of women how to apply cosmetics specific to their individual needs. Hair and wig styling will also be discussed. Wigs are available through purchase or loan. Each participant will be given a complimentary bag of cosmetics made available through the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation.

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, OES, met at the Wales Grange-Masonic Hall on Nov. 11 and honored veterans and the stations of secretary and treasurer. Betty Perkins was given an honorary membership.

Officers and friends will gather for an “unpack the kitchen party” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.

Lakeside will have a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. A meeting with the theme, “A Different Story,” will follow at 7:30. Members are requested to make a donation toward the Kitchen Fund. The landmarks will be read and obligation given.

Chapter Martel

AUBURN – Chapter Martel, Association Canado-Americaine, will hold a Christmas party at noon Monday, Dec. 8, at Rolandeau’s Restaurant, 775 Washington St. John Tousignant, director of fraternal services from the head office in Manchester, N.H., and Bertrand Michaud, board of directors member and ACA Maine representative from Fort Kent, are expected to be present. Members and guests are invited.

Holiday program

AUBURN – Singer, composer and pianist Mitch Thomas will present a Christmas program for the Auburn Art Club at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in the High Street Congregational Church sanctuary.

Thomas works for Big Brothers Big Sisters, teaches at Central Maine Community College and coordinates music at the Auburn Methodist Church, Park Avenue.

Jane Linnell will be hostess assisted by Kathy Gleason, Dorothy Murray and Barbara Ring.

AUBURN – The Book Burrow and Café will host “Once Upon a Christmas” from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday Dec. 8. Dramatic readings from favorite Christmas stories will be performed by Green Man Theatre Projects, Christmas carols will be performed by the Edward Little Show Choir, and refreshments will be served after the program. Parents night

LISBON FALLS – Parents of Lisbon High School juniors are invited to attend the first annual Junior Parents Night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the high school library. Guidance counselors will do a presentation on college planning for juniors, which will include an explanation of the PSAT score report and how information in the report can help students plan for their futures.

NEW GLOUCESTER – Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the home of Carol MacNeill. Line dancing

LEWISTON – Registration for the Multi-Purpose Center’s 10-week line dancing class, set for 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Mondays starting Jan. 10, is under way. The classes will be taught by Sue Driscoll. The cost is as follows: Lewiston residents, $35; non-residents, $45; and Lewiston senior citizens, $20.

Babysitting

MINOT – Babysitting is being offered by the Minot Consolidated School eighth-grade class as a fund-raiser for the Boston class trip.

Adult volunteers and students will be on hand to tend to the children at the school, Shaw Hill Road, from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.

The cost is $10 a child a day. Centers will be set up for the children, meals and snacks will be available, and there will be a good ratio of adults and students per child. Call the school in advance at 346-6471 or e-mail [email protected].

Round table

BRUNSWICK – The Chamberlain Civil War Round Table will depart from its usual meeting format on Thursday, Dec. 11. Charles Plummer will moderate a membership discussion on a list of “Least and Most Competent Civil War Generals” taken from a national survey.

Plummer is well-known in Maine for his portrayals of Joshua Chamberlain, U.S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet and Dr. Abner Shaw as well as his academic career.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the Coffin Elementary School cafeteria, Columbia Avenue. The Coffin School is adjacent to the Brunswick Junior High School. Entrance to the cafeteria is at the rear of the school. The public is invited.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Dec. 2 were: first, Martine Begert and Luke Merry; second, Alberta Turner and Connie Simpson; third, Jeanine Kivus and Fred Letourneau; fourth, Cynthia and Bill Clifford; tied fifth to seventh, Terry Gendron and Larry Fortier, Nancy Lindgren and Dick Horne, Patricia Garcia and David Lock.

Winners at Schooner Estates on Dec. 3 were: first, John Hackett and Ray Sirois; second, Rosemarie Goodwin and Fred Letourneau; third, Anna Vitiello and Don Johnson; fourth-fifth tie, Les Buzzell and Mike Quinn, Paul Barber and Luke Merry.
